Bunk beds are great space savers. Sometimes, with more than one child, having a bunk bed frees up a lot of space in the child's room. Bunk beds are also great when you have guests over or if the child has sleepovers. When shopping for a bunk bed, there are many things to consider. First is safety. The upper bunk on a bunk bed is rated for children 6 years and older. Also, you want to make sure that the manufacturer has tested the bunk bed and it conforms to all safety regulations. Next, you want to check the height of the bunk bed to make sure there will be ample room from the top of the mattress on the upper bed to the ceiling. Now, there are many different types of bunk beds available. Some models come with straight ladders so these models save space in the room since the ladder does not stick out from the bed but these bunk beds are also much harder to climb for smaller children. Models that have an angle ladder are much safer, Lea and Bolton feature bunk beds with angle ladders. Then there are models such as the ones from Maxtrix which have an integrated handrail for added safety. Now, to even make the bunk beds safer, companies such as Berg offer bunk beds with stairs (or steps) that make getting in and out of the bunk bed the easiest. The only drawback to the Berg bunk beds is that you cannot separate the two beds later on.
Now, you have to decide on the color. There are many colors to choose from so you can purchase a white, natural, honey. cherry, chestnut, brandy color bunk bed, Some companies like Berg even give you the option of accents or knob colors to really customize the bunk bed.
Make sure to check out the accessories and mattresses for the bunk beds as well. You can purchase textiles and finials and trays from companies like Maxtrix to create a really unique bunk bed. Also remember to check out our mattress section. Please remember that each bunk bed manufacturer has a recommended thickness for their bunk bed.
